Meet AMY

Amy Bird is a Pilates instructor with over ten years' experience, who specialises in rehabilitation-led movement. With a background in dance, her approach blends precision with intuition, creating a space where every body feels supported, understood and welcome.

Ballet has always been Amy's first love. She trained through the Royal Academy of Dance and, in 2018, joined the Joburg Youth Ballet Company. It was in the search to strengthen and protect her body for dance that she found Pilates, and what began as cross-training soon became a calling all of its own.

Pilates gave Amy something ballet alone couldn't, a deeper understanding of how her body actually worked. It helped her recover from injury, build proprioception, and move with far more control than she'd ever had before.

She went on to train further in Progressing Ballet Technique, determined to share what she'd learned with anyone willing to listen to their body. In February 2026, she added to that journey with her BBO Dance Teachers Level 5 qualification, becoming a fully qualified dance teacher alongside her Pilates training.

“Every body has a story. My job is to understand it before I ever ask it to move.”

Her mentor and teacher, Dianne Finch, taught her that quality matters more than quantity. It isn't about what you can do today, it's about how you build toward tomorrow.

That philosophy sits at the heart of everything Amy teaches now. Movement, done well, is one of the most powerful tools we have for a healthy body and a happier mind. Her hope, for everyone who comes to her, is simple: that they leave feeling a little more like themselves.
